Head Baseball Coach
Keith Gorman completed his fourth year as the Barton Head Baseball Coach in 2023. As Bulldogs’ coach, Gorman has compiled a record of 87-78 mark with the school in four seasons.
The 2023 season was a special one for the Bulldogs. Gorman led the team to a second-place finish in the extremely difficult Conference Carolinas. The 2023 team compiled a record of 30-20 – its more victories in four years – with a top ten national strength of schedule.
Under Gorman’s tutelage, Tanner Halvorson was named the 2023 Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Year and broke the school’s NCAA-era single-season record for wins (11) and complete games (10).
Gorman became Bulldogs’ mentor after leading Cumberland County (N.J.) College to the 2019 NJCAA Division III National Championship this past May. For his efforts, Gorman was named the 2019 ABCA/Diamond National Coach of the Year for NJCAA Division III.
Gorman led the Dukes to a 47-5 record in 2019 and sported a career mark of 316-91 (.776) after eight seasons at the helm for CCC. The 2017 squad went 55-8 on the season, ranked No. 1 in the nation and finished third at the College World Series while the 2014 team (49-10) was the national runner-up.
Gorman, who was also Director of Athletics and Student Life at Cumberland County since 2013, was the NJCAA National Coach of the Year in 2019 and a two-time Region XIX (2017, 2019) and ABCA Regional (2014, 2017) Coach of the Year. In all, the Dukes won three regional and three league tournament titles. Gorman also coached six players who eventually landed professional contracts and 17 players who signed with NCAA Division I institutions. Gorman mentored five All-Americans, three region pitchers of the year and one region player of the year as well.
Coach Gorman will enter his ninth season as the head coach of the Dukes baseball program and is the all-time leader in wins for Cumberland County College. After the 2019 season Gorman’s career record is an incredible 316-91 which is a .776% winning percentage. In Gorman’s 8 seasons at Cumberland they have been in the Region 19 championship game four seasons of the past five seasons (2014,2015,2016,2017), won the Region 19 Championship in 2 out of the last 5 years. The Dukes boast three World Series Tournament appearances. In those World Series appearances the Dukes finished 2nd and 3rd and in 2019 they were crowned National Champions.
Before taking over the Dukes baseball program, Gorman was the Head Baseball Coach at Holy Spirit High School in Absecon. At Holy Spirit, Gorman had a similar challenge in that he took over a struggling program. In seven seasons he compiled a record of 120 – 54. In Gorman’s last three years at Holy Spirit he led them to three straight conference titles with at record of 64 wins and only 16 losses. Coach Gorman was the Vice President of the SJBCA and the head coach for the Tri-Cape team in the prestigious Carpenter Cup (2010, 2011). He was also named the Atlantic City Press Baseball Coach of the Year in 2009. Coach Gorman is most proud of his program’s ability to move players onto and succeed at the next level. In seven seasons, Holy Spirit produced 26 college baseball players with one getting drafted this past June.
Coach Gorman is originally from St. Joseph, Missouri. He played college baseball at Kansas City Kansas Community college and North Central Missouri College before receiving his bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri. He received his Master’s degree from LaSalle University. Coach Gorman resides in Absecon with his wife Emily and two daughters Leanna and Ellee and son Beau.
